2022 PARISH NEWS
Hello to you, Thornton Parish resident,
I am writing today to inform you about an exciting proposal for our Parish – the expansion of the current Parish boundary, to include the whole of Thornton neighbourhood and our flourishing community.
The Parish Councillors have looked at the existing boundary and find that it no longer reflects “Thornton” as we know it today. It is many years since the current boundary was drawn and you may be surprised to hear that lots of Thornton’s long established institutions and businesses are actually outside of the Parish, e.g. St William of York Church and School, King’s Church, Newfield School, the Thornton GP practice and more. Equally, many homes, both new and long built with Thornton L23 postcodes, are not within the existing Parish boundary.
To fix this, the Parish Council wishes to petition Sefton MBC, to complete a Community Governance Review, to re-draw and expand the current PC boundary to truly wrap itself around our recognised and growing community.
Thornton Parish has 1800+ registered electors and so our Petition needs to be signed by about 275 of you, the parish residents. Unfortunately, other local Thornton residents cannot sign it.
To find out more, I would like to invite you to a special Parish Council Drop In meeting, to be held at St. William of York Parish Centre, Edge Lane, Thornton on Wednesday 16 February 2022, between 7 and 9pm.
There, we will display plans of the local area, showing the current Thornton PC boundary together with our proposed expanded boundary, detailing what it would include. There will be more information about the Petition and we will also aim to answer your questions on this proposal, as far as our own knowledge will allow.
Please note that current Covid guidelines require the wearing of a face mask or face covering, unless you are exempt. Hand sanitisers will be available.
We look forward to seeing you then.
Bob McGill,
Chairman,
Thornton Parish Council
